BOARD AND

THE TEAM

EdSmart was founded in 2014 by parents and entrepreneurs
Fiona Boyd and David Eedle, who grew tired of filling out
endless school paperwork for their three children. Fiona – a
former ABC broadcaster and start-up founder, and David – a
successful technologist and founder, decided to help solve the
problem.

David spends way too much time on aeroplanes, but when not at work his normal habitat is watching his children play sport or musical instruments (not concurrently). David spent the 80s and 90s working backstage in music and theatre, but doesn’t remember much – it was that kind of time.

She loves her work – it gives her the chance to be both rigorous and inventive. Outside of work, Sonja balances her time between learning, enjoying the company of her partner of 18 years and cat, and addressing social injustice, especially through spreading awareness and education. She has lived a privileged life by being white and able bodied, but as she is transgender and a woman, also experiences discrimination. Sonja is passionate about exploring the intersection of various forms of privilege and marginalisation.
